The wikipedia artikel. There's some interesting stuff there and I think a lot of pointless discussions could be avoided if everyone would just read this.
Example:
French fries probably originated in Belgium. There are at least two etymologies. One says that the name comes from the cooking term "to french" which means to cut food into strips, hence they are "frenched and fried". The other and more probable explanation is connected with US soldiers in Belgium during the World War II. People in the southern part of the country speak French. French fries are something like a national dish in Belgium.

How many forum members does it takes to change a light bulb?
1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed
14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
